The R.E.S.T Program
Developed by Dr. Rick McKinney, R.E.S.T is a unique set of theories and practices that will assist individuals, regardless of age, in breaking self destructive habits and gaining control of run away negative controlling emotions . For those suffering from negative or irrational thoughts and beliefs that cause painful emotions, R.E.S.T proves that you can find healing within yourself. The R.E.S.T. program has been successfully implemented in the Philadelphia prison system which saw a dramatic reduction in recidivism for those inmates who participated in and completed the program.
The CHH R.E.S.T program is modeled after the Philadelphia R.E.S.T program and requires participation from the community and religious organizations. These entities not only provide volunteers to work directly with inmates (both males and females) while incarcerated, but also are involved in the inmates' life after their release or prior to their sentencing to ensure that the individuals daily needs are being met. These needs include food, shelter, clothing, employment, transportation, and mentoring. These individuals and organizations also assist program participants in defraying a portion of the cost associated with the R.E.S.T program. In short, the R.E.S.T program brings the local government, the judicial system, and the community together in an organized, concentrated effort to help individuals become productive, law abiding citizens. Individuals who complete the program are more able to care for their families and themselves while respecting the rights and responsibilities of others within the community. The community benefits from the program because it reduces recidivism and therefore the cost related to violations of the law.
The CHH R.E.S.T. program is made possible by the generous support of cash and property donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, and spiritual organizations. CHH utilizes the profits generated from the sale of property donations and the public services offered by CHH. Additionally, numerous volunteers give their time and expertise freely in support of the CHH mission.
